Lydian Lion Silver Coins

The Lydian Mint offers uniquely designed silver bullion coins for investment purposes. Our signature Lydian Lion silver bullion coin celebrates what is widely considered to be the first true coin minted around 600 BC in Lydia, Asia Minor which was close to the Greek colonies in Asia Minor. Coins produced by our mint are identified by the unique mint mark and are currently available in 1/4 and 1 Troy ounce amounts. Only the Lydian Mint offers 1/4-ounce silver bullion coins, as it provides a more accessible and liquid denomination in light of the anticipated dramatic increases in the price of silver predicted by many analysts. Securing ownership of fractional silver bullion coins provides a unique opportunity for owning smaller denominated fractions of pure .999 silver bullion (as opposed to the 90% silver pre-1965 US circulated silver coinage or 40% clad coinage minted by the US government from 1965-1970--the traditional means of acquiring fractional denomination silver coins).

Design

The Lydian Lion silver bullion coin re-creates the captivating archaic style of the Lydian Lion. The obverse consists of simple geometric shapes with a roaring mouth with teeth bared and a fierce triangle-shaped eye. The "sunburst" pattern atop the lion's head is a signature design feature in the original coin. The obverse also features the century of original issuance (600 BC) and the current year of issuance. The reverse features a rendering of a lion paw along with the fineness and weight of the coin.

The symbolic and historical significance of the lion has been captured in this flagship bullion coin launched by The Lydian Mint. This beautiful and classic design celebrates the history of using precious metals in coinage which began over 2,600 years ago. The reverse depicts a lion's paw which has been found on about 4.7% of the ancient electrum fractional coins of the time period. Coins from The Lydian Mint can be authenticated by the presence of the unique mint mark located on the obverse side of the coin.
